Before anything else, my sister and I were flipping through channels just now and we saw an interesting scene on one of those uncut movie channels that the wonderful Paranaque Cable offers. Then the credits started rolling. We just saw the ending of
Billy Elliot, a movie we've been wanting see for the longest time. Great.

>I'm a happy half and half. :)
I chickened out yesterday and gave my Game 3 ticket to
Ramon. I figured he had more heart than I did, and I really wanted my friends to experience the championship atmosphere, something I’ve already experienced as a
La Salle student. I also figured that I was bad luck. I had all these friends from La Salle telling me to go to the game so that
Ateneo would lose. Hah! Beat y’all, dudes!
Alexis and I met up with
Joey Brash and his friends in National Sports Grill in Greenbelt and it was amazing. I’ve experienced watching the game in the office, then in Araneta, but NSG was something else. I watched the World Cup game of England vs. Brazil there and everyone was scattered around. This time, the whole placed was cut in half, one side for DLSU’s greenery and the other for ADMU’s blue paraphernalia.
Joey’s friends were pretty hilarious. I think it was the first time they’ve gotten together in about 6 years or so. Lady Brash was also present, so we all had a blast screaming at whatever television sets were facing us, banging on the table, stumping our feet, raising our arms after every shot, it was unbelievable. And the Lasallians even brought drums and that stupid horn. It was pretty wild, and really fun and friendly, too. What made it even cooler was that we could smoke, drink and eat while enjoying the game. Yipee!
Ateneo played a very good game. I must admit that I was very much afraid of La Salle, that even if we were leading all the way, they might fire it up in the 4th quarter and kick our asses. But that didn’t happen, and I actually thought, shit, we just might win this. And then it was the last 2 minutes, and I was still afraid, but I knew, I just knew that this had to be it. All the Ateneans were screaming while the Lasallians’ faces started crumpling up with worry.
Then it was down to the last few seconds. I can’t remember what the score was, I was just screaming and screaming. I managed to hear my phone, though, and it was a message from my DLSU sister Carla and it said, “I concede. Congrats!” Woohoo!!!
Ateneo defeated La Salle 77-70 and it was truly a glorious victory. I was so overwhelmed by the happiness in the room and all the balloons and the confetti on TV that I started crying. And what made me cry even more was seeing Villanueva and Manalo hug. It was just such a tight hug that had so much history in it. I was also happy for my friends who were in Araneta having the time of their life and being part of an historical event. And most of all, I was happy for the players. After 14 darn years, man! These players brought basketball glory and respectability back to the Ateneo! That's love! That's heart! (Shit, I might cry na naman.)
I got a text from a friend today that said, “A true archer knows how to put down his arrow when he sees a young eagle determined to fly. He is humble in victory and gracious in defeat. Animo La Salle!” Haha! Bitter. But really, I did feel for La Salle. They were invincible for so many years, and they had to lose to their one rival who hasn’t even been a competitive rival for so long until the new millennium began. Ateneo really had the right mix and they played with so much heart. Hell, Tenorio fouled out and Ateneo had to make use of Cruz whom I’ve never seen play before.
What still bothers me, though, is the blow that Villanueva gave Sta. Maria, an unnecessary elbow that had enough buwelo for us to conclude that it was deliberate. Ah well.
What I love most was when we each sang our alma mater songs. We went first, of course, and I actually knew more of the lyrics this time. Then the la Salle crowd clapped for us and sang their alma mater, and I sang it with them, forgetting that I wasn't cheering for them. But it's just such a beautiful alma mater and I couldn't help myself.
Someone said that during games like the UAAP, the world just stops and you forget about the problems of the economy, the country, the world even. Just watch the game and enjoy life for a while. We really need games like this once in a while. And what I love about sports is that every athlete congratulates his opponent whether or not they like each other. Everyone played a good game, everyone played because they loved the sport, everyone cheered because they loved their school, and everyone did everything together.
I'm also glad that there were no fights after the game, and I'm glad that even if the Lasallians were pretty heartbroken, they took it very well...I bet they're saying, "We'll get them next year." Hehe!

The title is Ateneo: It is all about heart. How right he is. :)

The title is Ateneo dethrones DLSU as UAAP cage champs. "One dynasty crumbled and one long title drought came to an end." Oooh, you've gotta love the sound of that.
