just came from lakbay tv where camille had to voice for one of their bohol stories. while waiting, i convinced rowel to take a break from his edit and to watch my siargao surfing story with me (he complained that making tambay was what i do best..and he may be right). i wrote the script last november and i had never seen the ep. i remember gabby cui texting carla that he had seen the ep with my name in the credits and that he enjoyed the story. naks!

seeing the ep for myself was pretty cool. it was a little too slow for me, though, but i guess it was because i'm so used to gameplan's fast-paced bara-bara style. another reason may be that i had envisioned my script with a gameplan edit. fast cuts, quick upsots, and the natsot! i was a little disappointed that there was so little of it. natsot is one of the most important things that makes the audience feel your story. they have to feel that they're there. they have to feel siargao's waves, that they're one with the crowd cheering the surfers on. it's room tone of a documentary/lifestyle/magazine story.

if the scene's in a beach, then make it feel like the beach. waves, sea birds, boats...there are all kinds of beach sounds that can make the audience say 'hey, i wanna go there!' and since this is lakbay we're talking about, then they're supposed to make places appealing to the viewers. and not only that, they've gotta make the viewers want to travel to the destinations being featured. to promote the philippines, you have to feature the sights and sounds of the philippines; and somehow, you have to add the smells and the tastes as well.

ok, i sound like such a know it all, when in fact, i'm also trying to master this. i'm also trying to master the art of making people feel, taste and smell something that's on video. i've been working for more than a year now, and i think i've improved a bit, but it seems that i still have a lot to learn. well, if it's any consolation, at least i know what i have to work on. that's a start...i guess.
i will find the time to work on this blog some other day, but this'll have to do for now. thank God i'm not Spud!
