last monday, i watched Killing Me Softly with 2 of my friends and we were expecting a sizzling, sexy, Fatal Attraction type of movie. but no! it had to be horrible, HORRIBLE!!! obb pa lang, what the -! the video fades in to a snowcapped mountaintop with the wind and the clouds blowing by. then, the superimposed image of joseph fiennes and heather graham deep in sexual intercourse fades in once in a while with the two of moaning. actually, only heather graham's moans were audible, but the audio was so bad. the moans weren't faded in. they were just abrupt uh's. not very orgasmic. and (here's the wrost part), the image of heather graham climaxing becomes a still with the snowcapped mountain in the background, then the text appears...KILLING ME SOFTLY. ok.
the movie begins and alice (heather graham) is walking in the street and she meets adam (joseph fiennes) under a stoplight. they stare at each other, cross the street and walk in separate directions. alice is in her office, very distracted by the thought of lust at first sight. so, she leaves work for a haircut kuno, walks to the bookstore where adam is at, they stare at each other again (i can hear the ala-tense music. whatever.), and they get in a cab and ride to his place. then bang! sex!
first of all, i honestly wasn't expecting heather graham to expose her breasts in this movie. but she did and man, they're huge! they're jsut as scary as joyce jimenez' breasts when i watched Warat! well, the size of their breasts are fine, but they both have ariolas the size of the bottom of a 12oz coke bottle!
back to the movie...sex. all the sex scenes were ala-hard core, romping, moaning, don't stop, uh, uh. but surprisingly, they weren't exactly sexy. guys in the moviehouse weren't go, yeah, go, go! they sounded more like nye, uy, ano yan, hahahaha!!! the problem was that the sex scenes just weren't arousing. now, i don't know if the scenes were censored, but if not, then the editing was pretty bad, too. the first sex scene didn't have any background music (i'm not sure about the other sex scenes, though.) and it reminded me of the sex scene of halle berry and billy bob thornton in Monster's Ball. jump cuts, moaning, romping, RELEASE. the thing about Monster's Ball, however, is that you could feel the release in the scene, you could feel the passion. Killing Me Softly had nothing but...sex. and it wasn't even sexy. and the jump cuts, even if they were similar to those in Monster's Ball, were irritating.
the only thing i like about Killing Me Softly is the twist in the end. but then, it came in the end when i was already extremely irritated, squirming in my seat and dying for a smoke. Debrah (played by the girl of truman's dreams in hte Truman Show...i forget her name. McEhlone?) is adam's sister and she turns out to be the villain in all this, the jealous sister who wacks all the women who come into adam's life. apparently, she is also the one de-virginized adam when he was only 15. so she turns on alice, but adam realizes his sister's psycho-ness in time.
i really didn't see this twist coming, and it reminded me of So I Married an Axe Murderer. the jealous, sneaky sister, psycho and deadly. but still, i was already annoyed with the movie by the time the twist came. so i wasn't really surprised or anything.
when i watched chris' review of Eight-Legged Freaks on Review Night, i also watched the review of jackie esquivel on Killing Me Softly. she said that 'the drama was there, but the suspense was insufficient." she also mentioned that the acting carried the movie. bull shit! she was being nice! acting was horrible, story was horrible, the whole movie was horrible. i think that the director (sadly, this is supposed to be his come-out movie in the english scene.) didn't do a very good job (duh.). he had 3 good actors, but their "good acting" just wasn't there. he didn't brign it out of them. he just...i've no idea. maybe sina chris, quark and ramon can explain. i jsut don't think...i just really hate this movie. buti na lang i used my ayala discount card to buy the ticket.
